This lush native bush
760 x 760 Mixed Media - Paint, dress patterns, graphite, charcoal, metallic foil New Zealand has an unusually high number of fern species for a temperate country and about 40 percent of these species are native and only grow here. This painting reflects my experience of growing up and taking bush walks with my parents. It was a primordial feeling being surrounded by so many little and large ferns with the crowding in of plants that stretched up into the canopy. The detail seen in small leaves and the large leaves that are made up of small parts. Truly a lush and diverse place where the air was rich with moisture, the smell of damp wood everywhere and a deep sense of greenness. |
