Out Fit In
760 x 760 Mixed Media - Paint, dress patterns, graphite, charcoal, metallic foil |
This is an artwork created as part of my 'Paper Doll' series which looks at notions of identity, culture, community, and connection.
This title is a play on words - to wear an outfit - to fit in or to not to fit in? Is fitting in a choice, a need - something to revile or desire? For this artwork I have used paper cutout doll strings made from dressmaking pattern tissue as a metaphor for humanity. Some of them have 'tabs' (a reference to paper doll play-sets) which allow them to choose different costumes. |
