The process of graphic design is a creative one, where the client and designer work together to convey a specific message (or messages) to their target audience. Graphic design focuses on visual communication and presentation which involves words, symbols and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. As a graphic designer I may use typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final, great result.
I have found over time, that it takes a good listener to get a design job done well - taking the time to find out from you what the expected result is to be is important. Although, as a client you may not know what you want, or you only have a few ideas - talking it through with me helps to clarify and set a definite direction. Sometimes, repeating old designs 'just because it's always been like that' isn't good enough anymore, but it can be scary making a change! I can give you fresh perspective on why change is necessary and how much change is worthwhile - but I'm certainly not into change for change's sake!
I have worked as a designer for 15 years now and I have a great, solid base to draw from as I have designed posters, guides, fold out tourist maps, invitations, bus-sides and backs, lightbox posters, business cards, newspaper ads, webpage concepts and more.
What I love about being a designer is using visual language to answer all the questions: Like, what is the point of this logo/advert/poster. Is it memorable? Can you easily see what you need to know? Is it attractive - does it need to be? Is all the information right? Does it do the job! You can never ask too many questions - everything deserves an answer - a reason (though in life it's not always that obvious is it?) I guess design is a little more quantifiable!
